Happy New Year! Wait, what? It’s April. Yeah, I know.
Do you like to make goals? I’ve found setting goals helps me focus, stay motivated, and gets me excited for what life could be like in three months, six months, and within the next year. I get bored easily and I wander off track if I don’t have goals. In my head, I can do anything for a week, a month, or however long I decide. I know most people don’t like to make New Year’s resolutions, but I do, even if I have veered off track by mid-February. I just think, “Okay, what happened? Was it too much too soon? Or was it not clear enough as to what I wanted to do?”
I’m glad you’re here, thank you for joining me! I started this journey a year ago. I turned 50 years old last July, which sounded so old to me and, to be honest, I did not handle turning 50 well. NOT. AT. ALL. So to cope, I made some goals. By the time I turned 50 years old, I had been ketogenic for about four years, successfully built muscle, and lost weight thanks to ketogains.com. Someone at my gym suggested I compete in bodybuilding, but in my head I thought, bodybuilders are crazy. You have to count calories or something. It reminded me of the 80’s. No thanks!
I was also going back to school for a master’s degree in teaching. In California that alone is a full time job. I ended up taking about seven exams in eighteen areas of study in eighteen months. Currently, I only have three classes left for my master’s degree. Looking back, it was a long and brutal, yet quick 18 months. Now I’m finally done with the certification process.
What have you learned this year or tried that was new?
It can be anything: read a new book, learned to grill, took up knitting, got a pet?
Last year I wanted to work on an area of my body that I couldn’t change on my own. That’s when I knew I needed to get a coach, a trainer, or a mentor. It was my legs. I wanted to have legs that were shaped differently. I needed a trainer because I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I had done what I knew to do and now it was time to ask someone with more knowledge.
Are you stuck in an area of fitness or health and not sure what to do next? I’d love to chat with you and help you reach the next level.
So here I am, 13 weeks to go until my first bodybuilding competition, July 10th 2021. I hope you will join me on my journey as I talk about my process, because when I think of bodybuilding, I do not think of 50 year olds.
