Call me Oscar

I’m definitely the “Oscar the Grouch” of the household. Not because I’m cranky, though. I’ll explain. On Saturday I woke up a bit early, 5:00am and ate my Keto cereal as well as an egg. Then I met up with some friends for a 6.2 mile (10k) run.

For those of you who don’t run or don’t understand why people do, let me fill you in. I run because of the people. It’s extremely difficult to run alone. But time is nonexistent with a good run partner. We talk, process our lives, discuss ideas, solve problems, chat about our relationships, etc. It’s honestly very therapeutic. It’s like a party that moves!

When I came home from my 6 miles, I was hungry. This is when my Oscar role kicks in. I eat the leftover proteins in our household. I’m the primary cook and, since my daughters were young teens, I’ve provided the essentials to a meal and the girls add what they want. For example, I make the meatloaf, roast chicken, or tri-tip and the girls add whatever else they want to it. This means we have a lot of types of proteins in the refrigerator on any given day. Certain foods the girls do not like to eat the day after it’s cooked (For example, salmon. They say it’s “too fishy,” I’m not sure what that means, but it’s fine. I think with some good lemon hummus on it, the fish tastes great). All of this means I get to eat the left-overs in the fridge. Since I need a lot of protein while bodybuilding, this routine works out alright.

My trainer said on Monday I will start primarily eating white fish as my protein until competition. That means I need to finish off the ground beef and shrimp I made before then. I think through what my daughters will not eat and will not like the following days (or what they will consider “bad” after 4-5 days, even though there is nothing wrong with it). Life of a Mother! I’m sure those of you with kids probably can relate. I keep all this in mind when I get home from my run and decide what to eat.

After I ate my “Acceptable Grown-up Candies” (also known as gummy vitamins), I strategically thought through what I wanted to have for breakfast. I decided on ground beef (6oz), tomato sauce, and ¼ cup ricotta cheese. I’m going to rabbit-trail for a moment and just say that ricotta cheese is a very underappreciated cheese. I love ricotta cheese. I could just eat it straight up. It’s not in my macros so I don’t, but I totally want to.

Anyway, I will also likely eat the old(er) hard boiled egg that is in the fridge, especially since I made new ones and this one will be now seen as “unacceptable.” If I don’t eat it, everyone will ignore its existence and then I’ll eventually just throw it away. I hate to waste good protein. We’re going to LA today so I won’t get much food throughout the day. Side note: before we left, I made the most amazing latte using Prymal coffee powdered creamers. I chose the Salted Caramel creamer, but all the flavors are divine! I got their very reasonably priced package deal with the aerator. Not only is it adorable but it makes the most fantastical frothy coffee! (Not sponsored, I just really love the brand!)
